to make the sled more narrow so that it can fit into your stock radio harness? I'm thinking about replacing the screws on the sides of the Empeg with flat head screws (after counter-sinking the holes). Then unattaching the side panels from the sled, file down the side edges (roughly the height of the original screw heads), and then reattaching the side panels? This whole process is something I am considering doing so that the sled fits into my car's stereo cage/harness. I can't alter the stock harness and I can't buy an after-market one either (because the front fold down facia mounted on both sides of the harness seen in pic). The only other option is to not use the sled, and cut off only the rear panel of the sled and mount it at the rear of the stock harness. That way I'm using the harness and the top of the after-market CD/radio as an Empeg "sled". By the way, the car I have is a Subaru SVX.

Thanks,

Curly

Note that the sled is the correct width for any standard DIN bay.

The problem is that some cars (mainly Japanese) extend the dashboard trim over the front of the head unit by 5mm or so. This is a security feature to make it more difficult to remove the head unit - and unfortunately this is less than ideal for a pull out unit!

Hi Curly

I have a SVX to. Installed my Empeg 1 or 2 years ago.
I clued a pice of wood on the stock harness (aprox. 10mm high). Then put in the empeg-sled whit some force. it holds there perfect. Never had a Problem.
Hope that helps, and excuse my english writing

Well unfortunately Rob my stock radio harness is exactly the same width as the Empeg sled, and the bare Empeg fits perfectly into the harness (with only about 1-2mm play). I could mount the the sled in the middle of the harness (bending the harness in the process) but I'd really like to mount a CD/radio on the bottom.

Derfossy: Nice to see a fellow SVX owner here! I'm looking forward to seeing your pics! =) Do you have it installed in the middle of the harness or at the top or bottom along with a radio?

Justin: Looking forward to see how well it turns out.

Thanks,

Curly

Sorry Curly , no pics.
I have installed it at the bottom, with the wooden spacer under it. But If you whant to put 2 Units in there, you have to mount the empeg on top (whitout the spacer you cant remove the empeg, and with the spacer in dere you cant mount 2 units. I hope this makes sense).
Its my only device, i have the tuner module.
Standart radio was a single DIN unit, changed it first for an Sony MD/Radio with the CD-Changer in the trunk.
Since the Empeg is in there i never missed ether. I dont even now when i last used the tuner.

have you changed the factory speakers in the front door ?
The factory ones are wery cheap.

Yes, I did replace the front speakers with Polk components. I still have the stock rear speakers but I have inline high pass filters installed (at roughly 150Hz) so that my subwoofer takes over the low bass.
