My Mark 2 is behaving strangely. All the time (car and home) it appears to be in standby mode - blank screen and LED flashing. But ... if I hit the power button it starts playing and I can switch between the player and the tuner etc - but I can't see what is going on cos the screen is blank.

I am using 2.0-b11 developer with Hijack.

Has anyone got any ideas? I am worried now ...

Thanks

John Aylward

Something like this happened to me once.. it ends up he player randomly selected the "No Visual" visual (I had automatic visual selection turned on.)

You mention you have Hijack... I've never used it, but I know there is a "blanker" feature that will basically turn off the display.... did you read up on Hijack before installing it?

Your display might be faulty, or it might just be a software issue with the screen blanker feature of the custom kernel.

Please try to apply a downgrade to version 1.03 and see if the problem goes away. If the display is still blank, contact support and ask David about it.

I am not aware of turning on the screen blanker - how do I try to turn it off?

hmmm...I'm not sure when you can't see the screen...
I'd try Tony's suggestion first.

No joy after downgrading to 1.03 - I'll do as Tony says and contact tech support.

Cheers

This is a VERY GOOD POINT.
If after you power up your player and you hear music playing, have you tried holding the "down" button in on the front of your player for about 2 or 3 seconds and see if your picture comes back???

He said he can switch between the player and tuner and nothing appears on the screen. If the screen were working, he would have seen the message indicating the currently selected source.

I assume he also can't see the bootup logo, either...

Key question to ask on this one is if the standby led is pulsing even while music is playing. Thats a solid indicator of a failed display, as it's what happened to my MK1. The Hijack screenblanker sinply writes black to the screen but keeps it on to allow music to continue to play, thus no pulsing LED.

As I understand, which may be wrong, if the LED is flashing, the VFD is off and so is the output circuitry. If it is playing with the LED flashing, something is really strange.

if the LED is flashing, the VFD is off and so is the output circuitry.

That is incorrect. The state of the output circuitry is not changed by the state of the VFD. Only the state of the amp remote line is changed. When you sleep the player, it pauses the current song, but does not change the state of the output circuitry.

That's a display fault then.

And so it's off to Cambridge I go ... I can confirm display failure. It wibbled a couple of times on the way home tonight and gave a ghostly glimpse of a track detail before spinning its way back to darkness. I know all the remote shortcuts really well now!!
