I have been having a helluva of a time trying to get my Empeg hooked up to USB. I'm using XP and I know that there have been some issues with USB support with the software, but my problem seems a bit different. I'm running 2.0b11 and when I run emplode initially it detects my empeg on USB. It's just that when I click on the icon to initiate a usb session in emplode it tells me that it can't find the Car unit. DOes anyone have any thoughts, or workarounds??
Also Ethernet would be an option, because I have a spare ethernet card that isn't used for much, except that it's always reading my network card as unplugged (even when it's connected to the car unit.) I'm sortof oblivious to the ethernet world, so if someone has any gems of wisdom or advice on what's going on, I'm all ears & would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Collin

I was in a similar position with Ethernet a couple of weeks ago, and following help in this Message board I have it working now. To be honest the speed difference between it an USB is not significant in my setup.

There are some known problems with the USB driver on XP. These problems seem to crop up on XP only, and only for some people. For other people it works fine.

Until they can get the USB bug fixed, you can get around it by using ethernet instead. Ethernet is faster anyway.

I nticed you mentioned something about you network card always saying it's unplugged...
Are you plugging you empeg directly into it or through a hub?
If directly connected, are you using a crossover cable or just a normal one?

Sorry, didn't notice your complaints about ethernet in my first reply. Troubleshooting ethernet steps are here in the FAQ.

Wow, I followed the steps outlined in the linked posts (IP configuration) and went out and bought myself a crossover cable and it worked like a charm. Might a suggest that we add the IP configuration to the FAQ for future reference?

Thanks everyone

The necessary IP configuration information is already in the FAQ, at the location I already linked.

I am having trouble with ethernet recognization as well, but I have a linksys router. The player shows an IP address on the about menu, but still no detection. Do I need a crossover cable for plugging the empeg into the router? Will it work with a router? I read the FAQ, but saw nothing for what to do in this situation.

From the FAQ:

"It has been reported that certain 10/100 hubs/switches simply refuse to work with the car player. Just because the link lights appear and the '10mbps' light is lit, doesn't mean that it will work. Check to see if things work on a separate 10mbps-only hub."

Concerning the USB problem, I've also had a similar problem with my setup (emplode w/WinXP). But I found that it connects perfectly if I unplug the USB from the player as Emplode is trying to locate it, then plug it in after about 5 seconds of watching it search for it.

For some reason, this isn't the case with JEmplode. It finds it fine everytime (NOT AN ENDORSEMENT! hehe)

Just curious, but do you mean that jEmplode finds it fine with USB or with Ethernet?

Sorry. That's USB. I haven't bothered with the whole ethernet thing.

So jEmplode finds it with USB but Emplode doesn't? If that's true, that gets the Weird Award for 2002... I just wrap the Emptool USB code, which I assumed was the same as Emplode -- must not be.
