I don't want Mike to be died down doing documentation stuff... but if we could have a kind person do a few FAQ entries made for his site...

1. How do I install on a non-Macintosh system?
2. How do I change the boot animation? (I know this was addressed in the BBS)
3. Anything else anyone can think of?

Help me with #1, and I'll do what I can. ( I haven't even used Jemplode yet, so I may not be the most qualified.)

heheh. I've never installed in on a Mac. I'd gladly do the FAQ since no one else is ponying up, but i have a hard enough time keeping up with Hijack as it is. Have you asked about how to get it installed on your mac yet? I'm sure someone out there has it workin' on a similar setup, if Mike can't help.

No, I'm non-mac.... Is a ".jar" executable on a Win2K system?

And I thought Mike had linked actual installers for all platforms. The Windows one was pretty straightforward for me.

The only trick is if you're installing on XP which doesn't include a Java VM... Dunno how that's handled because I'm trying to stay as far away from XP for as long as I can.

Bruno,

A bit OT but re. i have a hard enough time keeping up with Hijack as it is I assume you mean, to some extent the Hijack FAQ?

This possibly also goes out to Tony as well.....

How about Hijack and Car Player FAQ Update threads here that list (brief) posts of noteworthy additions/amendments to their respective FAQs? I'm thinking about something that, if possible, can be kept 'clean/noise' free where only the respective FAQ masters can post to.
If the entries could include include a hyperlink to the new/amended topic then so much the better.

I hope you guys who spend a lot of time creating and maintaining the FAQs mentioned don't take offence at this suggestion but my view here is:
1. We have all read the FAQ at some stage
2. Not all regular BBS visitors follow all threads and catch all those "I'll add that to the FAQ" post(s).
3. It would allow FAQ 'old hands' to keep current without skimming the whole FAQ and possibly (probably?) missing something useful.

His name is Loren and he is the guy that wrote the HiJack FAQ. He is taking it upon himself to keep up-to-date on all HiJack happenings so that he can keep the FAQ accurate.

I'm guessing Tony is saying no for several reasons...

1. It would be too much work. And most threads go so far off topic that linking to a realivant thread would be near impossible.
2. The current FAQ has little "new" .gif's that show what parts have been updated. (Is there a color scheme here? How about a "last updated on <auto insert>"?)
3. The FAQ was similar to that a long time ago (about a year ago) and Tony worked his butt off to put it in its current form.

Number 2. They're even date-coded already.

I'm guessing Tony is saying this for several reasons...

1. I myself haven't checked the FAQ in a few weeks.
2. I was lacking something in my post and he wanted to point it out so as to clairify for other readers.

Sorry about the mac thing... i was skimming. So did you get it installed? If not, use this link:

http://www.jempeg.org/installers-20b11/

and get the appropriate installer. Then to get the most recent stuff, after you install, download the most recent jemplode20.jar, and save it over the one in the Jemplode folder. Easy.

Okay... and the other thing...

THERE IS A CHANGELOG AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FAQ.
I've mentioned this elsewhere, but most people probably don't see it. It's for exactly this reason, you can check to see if anything has been added since the last time you were there. Tony, i'd suggest you do a similar changelog for the empeg FAQ... i know it would help me out... as those colored "new" buttons don't really designate what exactly has been altered in a huge FAQ entry, so i have to read the whole thing to maybe catch the change. I don't wanna tell you how to FAQ... but ... well, yea i do. hehe.

OK OK .. I know other people were talking about doing a FAQ, but I already had some questions written down, so I just formatted them into HTML and put them up. If you've got other ones, or any additions, drop me a line.
