I really dont like the Rio Car at all ... its way to fussy for me, has been nothing but little problems and annoyances, the display broke, got it fixed the Hard drive stalls, the wiring is done badly some pins are soldered some are not in the back and its ugly as hell. I know most of you like it and enjoy tinkering with it and all that but I hate it a LOT.
One day, when I have some time I will drive over it with my 1/2 ton truck - I'll enjoy crushing it to pieces - sure it cost me a bundle but heck - I dont want mine to exist, I expected too much from my Rio Car, I thought it would be the last player I'll ever have to buy - WRONG!. I'll take pictures when I kill my Rio Car and post them ... maybe a video too.

Hmmm. Assuming you're not some douchebag pulling a prank with this post, I would avoid black cats and walking under any ladders if I were you.
4000 users, and you're the only one who's had so many problems that you feel the need to run over your empeg with a truck. That makes you remarkably unlucky. But wanting to run over it with your truck (instead of selling it) makes you a dope.

I certainly don't feel that way about my Rio but I can certainly understand the frustration. Once again, not with the Rio, I think its great, but we all have owned things that just drove us crazy. I cut a set of headers off my Dodge once with a sawsall. I've also blown up watches with expolding bullets. My only suggestion would be for you to be more creative with your method of destruction. After all you paid for it, you might as well get maximum enjoyment out of it. If you run it over you won't even get to see it. Also if you destroy it, it just makes mine more valuable. Actually I think that destroying it is foolish. You can sell it and buy something you would enjoy. Since you've only made a few posts I am assuming you managed to purchase it at the reduced price? You would even make a profit or at least break even. What ever you decide, enjoy!

Hmmm - what does flamebait mean anyway?
You might as well make some money out of it - folks here are likely to buy secondhand sleds/empegs/components/hard drives etc.
And then you can spend the money you get on something more useful to you

Here, send me the hard drive as I am sure that the hard drive itself was not part of your problem, right? Besides, it is really dense, so if you take it out and give it to me first, the whole unit will crush much flatter and better. So you see, it is in your best interest to send it to me.

NOTE: I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ACTIVITY, OR ENDORSE IT, AND I'LL DENY THIS IN COURT!!!!
We once filled a 12"(len.)x4"(diam.) farm irrigation pipe with gunpowder and literally erased our old stinky recliner chair from existence. I mean it disappeared. The fuse was really long though, in order to allow us to move down the road about 1/2 mile. Wish we had a fast action camera on it to see it happening in slo-mo. All we saw was a bright flash of light, then what seemed like seconds later, a big loud crunching noise. God Loves Stupid Texans.

Given you've only made 3 posts to this board, and in short time, it seems like you haven't explored all your options. Perhaps part of your difficulty came when you home-built an extension cord for your display to fit in your truck? Maybe at this point you screwed the player and decided you'd bait the "less adventurous" users of this board into a flame war?
When using as directed, it works fine for 99.99% of the people 99.99% of the time.

I have only one complaint about my RioCar(s) - Too much music available!!! Yeah, they can be finicky if your tinkering but the real problem is with all the music available (over 30gb on mine, 7800+ songs), I can never decide what to listen to. It was soooooo easy when I just had a 10 disk changer in the truck and loaded it once a week with the music I was feeling like and off I went. If what I had didn't fit the mood, then I turned on the radio, simple. Now, I feel like I'm missing the opportunity to hear something awesome if I turn the Rio off and turn the radio on. Although when I turn on the Rio, the massive collection makes it difficult to decide what to listen to. Sure, i could listen to the "whole player" randomly, but that sucks too because I'm constantly skipping stuff I don't really want to hear right then. **** sigh**** It is crazy, I've waited for years for this technology to become available, but now that I have it I'm frustrated constantly because of my options.......... Oh well, got to go... I've got 2 more gigs of music to load and a deeper hole to dig !

Bodybag, you will settle into this new paradigm soon enough. Give yourself a chance to live with the player a bit longer, and you will soon enjoy harnessing its power instead of being overwhelmed by it.

Yeah, my girlfriend gets annoyed when I do this in the car. "Why can't you just listen to something all the way through for a change?", she says.
What I'd quite like is for the "Now and Next" display to pop up for a second or two, while I'm skipping tracks, so that I can see what's coming up, and don't have to listen to the start of it before deciding to skip it.
Actually, I've got a much better idea to solve this problem, but I need to keep it under wraps until I've sold it to enough people at SB that they give me a raise .

I have a sure cure for you "constant skippers" out there.
Simply ride in a car with another empeg owner. Once. Then you'll realize how annoying constant track-skipping is to the passengers.
I am now training myself only to do lots of track-skipping when I am by myself in the car.
Think I'll go update one of the FAQ entries on this subject...

We once filled a 12"(len.)x4"(diam.) farm irrigation pipe with gunpowder and literally erased our old stinky recliner chair from existence.
A friend of mine can probably match that.
When he was a machinist's apprentice in Germany, he and his cousin went out in the countryside with a 55 gallon oil drum with the top cut out of it; a coffee can with a tight fitting lid; and some gasoline.
But wait -- I told this story once before! See here.

I absolutely love my empeg, to the point of buying a spare just in case something ever happens to mine. I can't imagine what it would be like without it. (Well, actually, I can -- which is why I bought the spare!)
But believe it or not, I can understand exactly where you are coming from. If you are used to and comfortable with the paradigm of just selecting a CD and playing it, and don't want to make your life any more complicated than that (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that point of view!)-- then yes, indeed, the empeg player is pretty intimidating.
I think I summed this point of view up pretty well right here so I won't repeat myself.
Don't let some of the less civilized posters on this bbs (c'mon, Greg, you're a nicer guy than that!) offend you -- but keep in mind that when you start disparaging people's religion they are likely to get upset!

While reading your post I got this "do-de-do-do, do-de-do-do" tune in my head - I always use the 'track' display and over the past two evenings while driving home I wanted to know what the next-track on the album was going to be so as not to 'spoil the mood' of my listening experience thus far.
I'm wholly in favour of a brief 'next track' awareness while in 'track' display mode.
