Highly unlikely to be the "beta" nature of the software (more stable than most production releases from the company in Redmond...)

More likely is a slightly iffy hard drive cable - see, for instance, this FAQ entry

Do what it suggests and contact support

As stated: contact support. They will likely authorize you to check out the cable - both ends - thereby breaking the stickers, while still keeping the warranty. They'll also send you a new drive cable.

Ok,
I opened it played with cables it worked! put back together stopped working again. I looked at the cables and the ones connected to the HD are glued on and can not be removed? I can't beleive this, I have waited 4 years for this and now its being a piece of crap. i thought the rio car was ROCK solid?

Yes, it's the cable, I had the EXACT same problem (working HD's outside the unit, but not inside)

A new cable will fix this. Contact support. They will send you one free of charge.

You can pry the melt glue (it isn't very sticky) off with a small screwdriver or something similar. Be patient, be gentle, be careful.

The cable is custom length to fit inside properly. If you contact support, you will probably (don't know what shipping they use for them) have one by you inside the week...

If you have a single drive player, try connecting it to the free IDE connector at the end of the cable instead of the middle one. Most problems are with the middle one... Best way to do this and avoid folding the cable in odd ways is to move the drive over to the empty drive position.

Another thing that has been employed with some success is to remove the cable and give the connectors a good squeeze (don't over do it though) in a vice or something similar. Take care to align the drive connectors so that youre not "one pin off" when you reconnect it.

If you do a few searches around this board you should find that the drive cable problem isn't too uncommon, but that empeg is good about fixing it.

Has the idea that you should contact support (see links in earlier post for contact addresses) come across yet?

And take a chill pill...

Hey
Yea its got to be the cable. I tried the crimping part and it did work a little better, but then I tried to improve it, and I cramped it too much so it became no good. I have called Sonic Blue and requested a new cable be sent to me ASAP. I live in Ontario, CANADA, and I tried all the local stores no one had a cable!!

Thanks
Jim

you want a temp fix, switch from the middle connector to the end connector.,

Yeah, if you only have 1 drive, move the drive to the other possition on the sled and use the "end" connector. The middle connector is the one that has the bad crimp.
