is there a list of suitable amps for use with the mk2 empeg?

other than being 4 channel amp are there any requirements. i read in the empeg manual that it must support 4v inputs and have variable gain adjustment. however none of the amp specs that i have seen say that they have these features. do pretty much all amps have these?

sorry for all the questions but i don't want to order an amp and find out it doesn't work with my empeg. i was looking at the sony xm440 - does anyone know if that will work. i don't really care how loud it goes - just want one that works and sounds nice.

I haven't seen any lists (though I half expect Tony to link to a FAQ entry!).

I went in to my local car audio shop and asked for their recommendation. The one they sold me was a 4-channel Caliber amp (can't remember the model number), and so far I've been very happy with it. I'm using it to run the two front speakers, with it bridged to run a sub.

While I can't remember how much I paid for it, it can't have been very expensive - I seem to remember feeling rather skint having just bought my empeg!

Bryan.

Ive just bought a Directed 650 amp from www.caraudiodirect.com who are a UK based, as am I. Great for the money!

It supports up to 8V inpurts, and its a 5 channel amp, 4x50rms and 1x250rms.

Sounds good so far, but havent installed everything yet.
I was going for an Infinity RA6006 amp, but this went on special so...

Im pretty sure any amp will work with the Empeg, I dont see why any wouldnt. what you have to find is the amp that will work with your speakers (i.e.) watt ratings, channels etc.

I think pretty much any amp under the sun has a gain adjustment, no worries there. But you do need to find out about voltage input. You won't get full use from the empeg's high volt (low noise (usually)) outputs if you have an amp that can't handle the 4V. Most newer amps can do it, but many older ones could not. You'd end up really distorting the sound before the volume got very high.

I've got a MacAudio 4x170W baby which sits nicely under my seat, cost under £200 and glows blue in the dark.

What more do you need?

To reiterate above posts - any amp which can cope with an aftermarket car stereo should be fine. Go for what you think looks or sounds best/biggest etc

"Your amp is blowing glue!"

I wonder how many people will catch that reference...

That's the amp I have. It works fine with my Mk2a in my Peugeot 405 with the factory speakers. The sound quality seems good to me, but I admit I don't have a perfect ear for quality - almost anything sounds better than the tinny radios I grew up with...

Like it! Took me a wee while thinking about it, though, and looking at the dearth of replies, maybe no-one else spotted it.

What you want to get you can get. Figure out if you want 2 channel, 4 channel or even 5/6 channel amps that come with crossovers, power and gains built for subs with your normal 4 speaks.

Ebay is a great option. Crutchfield or any other car audio review site will give you an idea on what to look for. Most anything will work but try and keep away from the really cheap ones... like most everything, you get what you pay for (but most people don't need the 2x25, stable to 0.25 ohm amps for $1000)

Even Nemesis was better, and it had little to no relation to Zork at all.
