It's in the FAQ (somewhere), but the short answer is "4MB ram".

4mb in MK2 or MK2a? Is it possible for the MK2 (without the 'a') to have 48?

mk2 has 12MB ram, and various capacity drive combinations.

mk2a has 16MB ram, and various capacity drive combinations.

Either version can use 1 or 2 drives, any capacity.

uh... 2a=8 and I doubt very seriously you could get one with 48 being that the RAM chips are surface mount chips..

someone has offered to sell me an MK2 with 48 gb. i guess it's possible.

BTW, how much difference is that 6 megs of RAM gonna make in performance?

Mk2a has 16Mb. Mk2 has 12Mb. It's the very first question in the Basic section of the FAQ (click here)

I assume that by 48 you mean a 48G drive? If so then yes a Mk2 or a Mk2a or Mk1 for that matter can take a 48G drive. A Mk1 has more restrictions on the (edit:) physical size though.

Drive upgrade is here

In some PDAs such as the iPAQ, it is possible to stack RAM chips on top of the ones soldered to the board to achieve higher than stock levels of memory.

Yes, and something like that could theoretically be done on the empeg, too. However click here to see why this is not recommended.

[edit: Then again, you did S/PDIF on your player so who am I to say what's not recommended? ]
