Can't get my player to do that, though. Perhaps it's only in Beta 11?
When does the message appear (at which stage during boot)?

Aww wow. Cool
Happens to me, after I reboot the machine, about three seconds after the player software has started and the music is playing. Stays up in a box for about 3 seconds, then disappears.

Get it on mine too Tony - just after the unit has booted and started playing a message pops up on the screen for a few seconds. I have a feeling that someone may have slipped something into the new Hijack (just loaded it last night, and hadn't noticed it yet). If you still don't see it, try changing your tuner settings to "European" ...

Search the Hijack patch for 3113...
I wondered why Mark was so keen for us all to upgrade! I didn't understand his comment, "Fixed issue with startup message," as I mis-read which meaning of "issue" he meant - I'm sure the pun is deliberate on his part.
Nice one, Mark!
Edit: give less away...

Mostly you just have to wait for the date to change.. Europeans are just so advanced (a few hours, anyway) compared to the colonials.

Mind you, that antipodean colony is even more advanced than us. To the tune of about 8 hours or more

Sadly, no. I have five exams over the next 6 days (out of 11 total, spread over 13 days) which decide 30% of my final University degree, and (if I fail any of them) mean I have to resit the entire idea. So much as the idea is a nice one, I can't spare the time

Incidentally, Mark, what would you have done if this alteration had caused 95% of empegs not to boot up/play on the day? Not that that would ever happen, of course, but the faces of the people at the meet would have been a sight for sore eyes :P
Cheers,
A.

Simple: I would have tested it beforehand, by advancing the date on my own player to ensure no such problems!
And that IS what I did.
Cheers

I feel left out. I'm running Hijack 276, and I've tried advancing the date and everything, and I get no message.
Must be something in my config that's preventing it. Oh well.

Install v276, ensure the player's date is set correctly (today is 14-June-2002), and reboot. Watch the screen as the player starts.

Oh, did you advance the date to a date still within the month of may? He's checking that it's in May, after the 14th, and after 4pm.

Ugh. Yeah. It's June, isn't it.
And I use struct tm's all the time in my code at work. I even use them in my empwake alarm clock... Yet on a Friday when my brain is at 10% power at best, I couldn't seem to remember that we're in the month of June.
I need a friggin' beer.

I know, I know, i was only joking - I knew you would have tested it thoroughly. But surely there was just the 0.00001% chance it could have failed on a Mk1 or something?

Damn, now it's my turn to feel stupid. Month and year were wrong on my player. NEVER MIND.

I'm going to move that information to the appropriate Easter Egg entry.

Exactly why they don't give me root access at work anymore. Well, on most systems, anyway.

Speaking of Easter eggs and the like, there are now at least 7 more people out there who can reiterate pieces of Patricks humour that are printed on the Mk 1 motherboard - a number of these were framed and given as prizes at the meet at the weekend. For example, where the processor is normally soldered it starts off by saying "If you can read this your empeg doesn't work ...".
What do you guys reckon "Gordon lives here" on another part of the board means? (and you guys who were at the meet, don't tell them right away - let them stew on it for a while )
