Is there any place that still sells these. Or anyway for me to get another? Friend is selling his empeg and giving me first dibs on it although he modified the docking station. Not sure exactly what he did to it but said if I got it he would hook it up. My question is, are there any places out there were I can still get a docking station for the Mark 1 empeg? The setup he has and said he could do in my car is complicated and would rather just use the empeg all by itself in my car.

Thanks,
Brian

Mk1 docking sleds are very rare at this time. You will have trouble finding one. If you want to purchase a Mk1, you really need to make sure it comes with a good docking sled.

You might have more luck buying the docking connector parts and having someone build the rest of the docking sled at a machine shop. For those who want to do this, Hugo has said he would supply the necessary blueprints.

I don't know what modifications one would need to make to the Mk1 sled that would render it unusable in another car. Maybe the wires needed to be cut from the connector for head unit requirements as in my install, but you could work around that. What did he do to the sled?

By the way, just to be perfectly clear: You really should be looking at getting a brand-new Rio Car instead of a used Mk1.

The Mk1 is great and all, but the Rio Car is even more improved and you will be happier with it all around. Also, sleds are plentiful for the Rio Car.

From the best I understand him. He cut the wires in the back so it would fit in his car along with his current cd-player. Only way to hook it up now is by aux input as thats all he said is left on the sled, besides power and ground. I would buy a new rio car but the difference between $400 for his and $1000 for a new one, just don't have that kinda money laying around. Guess I'll let it go and just keep dreaming about owning a new one then. Any contests going on where I can win one by chance? hehe

if all that is wrong is the wires don't worry about it new ones can easily be soldered on or you can get a new connector from newark if need be

as long as the cage part is ok I wouldn't worry

How would I get hold of Hugo to obtain the info?

I have a Mk1 (I guess as its S/N is 351) but my car got stolen, so I have the unit but no sled :(

That is going to be a problem.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no spare Mark I sleds available anywhere in the known universe.

Your best bet is to hope that when the thieves strip and sell the parts of your car, they don't bother removing the empty sled and that if the remains of the car are recovered, you will be able to retrieve it.

Sadly that's not an option, the car was recovered and it had been rung and they had replaced the sled with some other stereo and no sign of the sled, so making a new one is the only option I think ... unless somene wants a Mk-1 player, then I'd sell it.

Cheers

Hugo has said for a long time that (in theory) the CAD material for the metalwork should be available. The Mk1 connector is an OTS from Farnell, and is still available. Wiring harnesses are not that difficult to put together.

I have a guy here who can water-cut and fold 1 mm stainless steel - so the only question is, Hugo - are you prepared to release the AutoCAD files for third party manufacture?

Rob, if you haven't already done so then email Hugo about this. I suspect it won't be a problem.

By the way, nobody need worry about Mk.2 sleds - we made a batch recently and have LOTS of them! (I just know we'll run out in a year and someone will quote this post!)

Is there any chance of a price drop on the sleds?
I have just realized that with a sled in my living-room, I'll
have a very good equalizer for mye normal stereo, which
is rather pricy to buy separately

I have no idea - I guess it depends if Sales are in any hurry to shift them.
