Who should I contact about this message that was posted???

" The stereo separation problem was due to a 100 ohm being stuffed in the car output circuit instead of 0 ohm - again, this was fixed on the production line & any units that came back to us had it done as a FCO. "

I want to know if I should fix this on my MK2 or early production MK2a.

Also , is there an "FCO" list that I should look at to make sure my Car Player is "up to date"??

I have already installed the dimmer cap update which solves the dimming problem.

Heh, no, there's no punch list for the player, it's pretty much "look at the troubleshooting faq if you're having trouble".

David will probably drop in here sometime (either in this thread or in the other thread where the separation issue was mentioned) and give us the skinny on it. Just be patient.

If David should chime in, is there a serial number range we should/could be concerned with here? I have noticed poor stereo seperation on my empeg IIa since new, and have never quite figured out if its the rest of the system or the empeg itself. If I felt like cracking it open, what can I look for to determine?

Thanks-
Jeff

If you have a Mk2a, there should be no problem with the stereo separation. I think the problem that they mentioned was only on some Mk2 units, and only older ones.

And by the way, problems with stereo separation could be the MP3 files themselves. Do a serious .WAV format test track to determine.

I'll check this with Hugo - I'm not sure which players may be affected by this.

It must be a simple Mod right? Just swapping the incorrect resistor with a 0 OHM. Could someone post a pic with the resistor circled so we know which one to change? How can we find out if there are any other things that may be wrong with our players that might not be obvious enough to hear or see?

Like I said, could be.... Now that I've finally gotten settled in my new house and set up the home system, I will have to bring it in and test with some .wav files. Most (90%) Of my MP3s were encoded using MMJB, and we all know how well that does...

I've now switched to LAME and EAC, using a stack of 6 external scsi drives... Once I get some time, Im gonna re-rip my entire collection.

Im sure this is a new thread, but... Has anyone else noticed that EAC/LAME seems to produce MP3 files that sound "weak"? Lacking in punch, and bass? I had been using the -r3mix setting, probably will switch to -alt-preset -standard now.

Yes, in another one of the discussion forums here on this BBS. Probably one of the ones you don't read.

It's now a new FAQ entry.
