I've been leaving my empeg on the seek tool info mode for the past few days to add a little variety to my life, to spice things up a bit. I was just wondering how it stores the graph of the song since the hard drive is mounted read only? Its probably a stupid question but i was just curious. Oh, and another thing, should I be worried about burn in using the seek tool? The triangle for play is always in the same place, and also, the first number in the top left and top right time displays is a "0" 99% of the time since i have very few tracks that are longer than 9:59:99.

There is some kind of scratch partition that is mounted RW. I'm sure there is an FAQ entry about it.

1. Seek tool data is stored on the dynamic data partition, the same place where playlists, running orders, etc. are stored. This drive is written to in raw mode, i.e. it's not really mounted at all. The player just writes to it using low-level routines. Don't know much more about it than that.
2. Screen burn is a legitimate concern on the empeg. The hijack kernel has a neat screen blanker which can help you out, but it also may blank the screen when you don't want it to.

That explains the question I had as to why the player boots fast and still has some writable are on the drives. I know when I watch linux start on my computer it takes longer for it to mount the hdd RW than the empeg takes to start fully.

Are the developers aware of a couple of bugs in the Seek Tool?

1) After about 4:35 or so (4hr 35min) of a 5:05 or so file the blinking vertical cursor goes back to the beginning - though everything else still works

2) When powering up it tends to show the play icon (right pointing triangle) even when paused. A click of the pause button brings it back to normal. (I use it at my desk a lot so I just yank the power cord out). This seems to be new with b13 code.

3) Feature request- on the 5 hr file the seek chunks are something like 35s, would be nice if it could be tuned to 5s or 10s.

I have a 30GB unit. The 5 hours shows are radio shows downloaded over the internet (about 70MB), WMA, low sample rates, but stereo I think.

Testing shows that the pointer jumps to the beginning between 4:39:37:21 and 4:39:37:35.
