serial boot log?

Customer support has asked me for a copy of the serial boot log for a problem I'm having. How do I get it? Can anyone provide a link to the FAQ entry that addresses this? Couldn't find it on my own. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't seem to have Hyperterminal. I am running Windows XP Pro 2002 with Service Pack 1. How else can I get the serial boot log? Is there a different program within my version of Windows that would work? Or do I need to download something?

With all the bloat they have in Windows XP, do they really not bother to include a terminal program? Argh.
If there's a special way to dig up some sort of hidden terminal program in XP or on the XP installation CD's someone please describe how it's done so I can write it up in that FAQ entry.
If not, what's the smallest/simplest/easiest freeware terminal program for XP that I can link in the FAQ that will require the fewest lines of written instructions on how to use it?

HyperTerminal came with my windows xp pro. The short cut is in the start menu is under programs - accessories - communications. It must be installed by default because I don't remember having any options on what to install when installing XP.

It must be installed by default because I don't remember having any options on what to install when installing XP. Did you upgrade a prior version of Windows when you installed XP, or was it "from scratch"?

Okay, Nikko, can you check the menu that Msaeger said it should be under and let me know if it's there on your particular install of XP? If it's there, I'd like to include at least that in the FAQ.
Also, does XP perhaps hide more complicated programs by default? Maybe hiding certain advanced utilities until you dance a little jig for it?

My username has administrator rights maybe that makes a difference.The XP start menu also has that "feature" that hides un-used programs. I think 2K did that too.

I guess you've looked under Programs->Accessories->Communications? That's the location under XP Professional, not sure if XP Home would be the same.

Any piece of terminal software will work for this purpose, but Hyperterminal is most commonly used since it comes with Windows. If you can't find Hyperterminal on your Windows Start menu, search for the file "hypertrm.exe" on your hard disk, or search for "Hyperterminal" in the Windows Help. In some versions of Windows, it's an optional component and you may need the original Windows installation CD to install it. If you're not a Windows user, or you can't use Hyperterminal, you may use any other terminal program you like. There are many available for download on the internet, many of them freeware. If anyone has data to refute the accuracy of that paragraph, let me know.

The FAQ now readsIf you wanted to point non-windows users in the right direction zTerm and minicom are pretty much the standard terminal apps on Mac OS and unix respecitvely. -Mike

Ok, I tried Programs->Accessories->Communications and C:\Program Files\Windows NT\hypertrm.exe. No luck in either place. I guess I'll download TerraTerm and see if I can figure out how to use that.
