Hey guys, I tried doing a search, but found nothing current on the status of the tuners.

Anybody have any idea what the status is ? I am #123 and have not heard anything.

Just curious

Yes, but...

Once again, I have been having problems with parts supply, this time the damn box. I ordered a load some considerable time ago, but they never turned up. After a while, I was told they were no longer in stock, but would be in soon. Soon was delayed by a few weeks, then a couple of months. I chased it up (again) today, and I'm now told they should be in the first week in January.

I have everything else for about 75 kits, but only about 10 boxes or so, which is really annoying. I will ship those kits I have parts for in the next couple of weeks, Christmas allowing, and the rest will go out when the boxes turn up.

That should take me to around order 150-160, and after that I'm STILL trying to arrange more tuner modules.

Sorry about the lack of responses recently, but what with trips abroad, very nasty flu, family problems, etc, etc, I haven't even looked at the BBS for weeks.

Around 100 or so. I can ship out about 10 in the next couple of days, and have more than 50 kitted up just waiting for those damn boxes.

Wahay!

Just received my long awaited email telling me tuner is ready - no. #111 in time for Christmas. Cool, so now I can spend Christmas building the kit instead of talking to various relatives...

Cheers,

Andrew.

Tuner arrived on Friday, was away for the weekend but finally managed to spend some time soldering it together last night.

Spent about 3 hours to solder both PCB's and get it all fitted in the box. Just need to solder the external connectors now and try it out in the car which I'll be doing later this evening hopefully...

The kit is a very professional bit of work, but this is the first time I've soldered a double sided PCB. Didn't realise that all of the holes are plated through, so the solder doesn't need to reach the component side too. D'oh! Once that blinding flash of the obvious hit me, the soldering went much more quickly.

I reckon if I'd read through all of the instructions properly and got all the right tools together to start with, the whole thing could be put together in a couple of hours.

It's actually quite good fun putting it all together. All the components are very clearly laid out and labelled on a sheet of A4 so it's pretty straightforward. You do need a very fine tipped soldering iron though - the board is quite compact and would be easy to form solder bridges with a larger bit.

One other thing worth mentioning is that the box is fairly large (roughly 3" x 2.5" x 3") so is unlikely to fit behind the stereo in many cars. I've routed the empeg leads off to the drivers side so I can fit the box under the dash in my S2000. Hopefully I'll be able to get the audio controls working finally too :-)

Thanks to Patrick for putting up with his many supplier woes and making these kits available.

I'll post again once I get it working...

Cheers,

Andrew.

Cool - spent another half hour last night soldering the connectors onto the numerous leads that protrude from my new tuner and tested it in the car. It worked first time - Hurrah!

Another tip for you kit builders out there - don't get too much solder on the pins for the tuner connector as that makes it very difficult to push them into the housing. Also you'll end up with two blue wires - only one of which is shown on the wiring diagram. It's not made clear which one should go in the connector - it's the 12v wire (NOT the power antenna wire) which connects to the bottom hole on the PCB.

Quite impressed with the tuner facility - the scrolling RDS info showing details for the current radio programme is pretty cool.

Top stuff.

Just placed my order and got number #29. So, as a rough guess I'll get my unit by 2031

Will that many units be served at all? What you think?
Is there not any other option? I just bought my empeg (still don't have it in my hands), so I'm kind of getting late for everything. Sad.
