I've uploaded Empire 0.40 to the webpage for Palantir. This version is a much improved version of Empire, and fixes bugs in previous versions that would crash the player if too many tracks were beamed. This version also comes with a handy install script (thanks to Tony C's example in emphatic) that will install the software on your Empeg automatically.

Before using this install script, it would be wise to un-install Empire from your player by removing empire, sleep, start_empire, irattach, and all lib/libopenobex* files from your player, as well as removing the ;@EXEC_ONCE line from your config.ini file. Removing these files should be easy using a FTP program. If you are installing on a fresh Empeg, simply follow the install instructions on the webpage.

I have also created a manual for Palantir and Empire, with updated screenshots and frequently asked questions. This manual also details some advanced options you can use with Empire, as well as some of the lesser-known features of Palantir.

Any feedback is appreciated!

I've always wondered, what is ment by the name "Palantir" (and how do you pronounce it)? There always seems to be the clever "emp_____" naming in the empeg community, but Palantir is one I could never figure out. Thanks!

*laughs* tman beat me to it, but I pronounce it Puh-lan-teer. I guess you could watch the LOTR (where the reference came from) to figure out how they pronounce it. For what it's worth, Palantir runs on the Palm, so it does not qualify for the Emp* name. Empire does run on the Empeg, hence it's name.

Guess I should add this to my FAQ.

I've mentioned before how much I love Palantir! Thanks for continuing to improve this excellent software.

I have a problem with Palantir PDB Creator returning the following error:

ERROR: java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "mp3"

I think this is because I have a particular playlist with over 3000 tracks in it.

Is this the current version of the Palantir PDB Creator?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Thanks for the compliment.

What version of the PDB Creator are you running?

Did you try the jEmplode plugin? It's much easier. The plugin does not have many of the data conversion issues that the PDB creator has to work around.

If you are running the latest version, send me your exported .csv file and I will take a look at it. You may be able to work around this error by removing the one line that contains your 3000 track playlist. I suspect there may be a limitation with the CSV parser I am using, but I would need to see the file for sure.
