I've been having a little problem lately - no not that one - a problem with my Empeg.
Sometimes when I power up the player in the car it thinks it's at home and of course it immediately blows my brains out 'cos the volume's set @ 0db!! Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know what might cause it? And finally does anyone know how to cure it?
Once it's got itself into this mode it doesn't seem to want to get out of it. I can remove it, re-insert it, turn the ignition off & on as much as i like and it seems that the only way I can get it to behave is if I leave it out for a few minutes then re-insert it and turn on the ignition. Sorry for the long sentence - I did take a very deep breath.

I'm sure I've read about this problem here somewhere, but I can't find it when I do a search.

ISTR that this is caused by the little sprung piece of metal inside the power connector at the back of the Empeg isn't resetting itself back to normal when the power cable is removed. This little switching mechanism is how the Empeg tells if it's in a car (no power plug inserted, switch open/closed) or at home (power plug inserted, switch closed/open).

Of course, I may be speaking total tosh, and even if I'm right I ain't helping much 'cos I'm not sure of the best way to solve this.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw my 2p in.

Nick.

It does work on the presence of a plug in the home power input; and we have had cases where the connector's sense mechanism has failed and we've had to replace the power connector. More often than not it tends to always think it's on home power (bad powerdown behaviour in-car, no fader menu option, etc).

If this does appear to be the problem you're seeing, email [email protected] to arrange a return.

OK thanks Hugo. They're just the symptoms I'm getting - No fader etc.
If I arrange to have it sent back for repair how long do you think I'll be without my baby? [tears]
I live in Hertfordshire so i'm wondering if it would be less painfull if I could arrange to come up and have it done 'while i wait'
sniffle...

The only slight problem is that currently I'm the only person capable of major repairs like that (this is changing soon!) - and I'm off to CES between the 5th-12th.

It might be possible to get it done while-u-wait (it'd take about 30 mins) between now and the 4th, otherwise you'd probably be better off leaving it until I'm back - it'll just wait here for my return, and you might prefer to have it in your car instead!

I'll have to see if I can get an afternoon off work before you go away. I'm almost never without it - I listen to it in the car - plugged into the PC at home & at work - and through my hifi system (not all at once of course). I'm back @ work tomorrow so I'll try to arrange something. I'll let you know as soon as I can so that we can arrange something.
Thanks for your help Hugo.

Hi Hugo. I've managed to get Wednesday afternoon off work so that I can bring my player up for you to repair if that's ok with you. Is there any particular time you'd like me to arrive? (I don't want to get there at an inconvenient time)

Is this a great company, or what!

I'll betcha that if I asked the CEO of Panasonic to invite me up to his office so he could solder some broken whatchamacallit (sorry for getting all technical here) on my CD player they wouldn't even take the time to laugh at me.

I have never known another company to be as customer service and satisfaction driven as empeg.

I agree wholeheartedly. You just wouldn't get this service anywhere else. I just hope Hugo doesn't think I'm a pain in the @rse for being so impatient and wanting to get it sorted before he goes away.

Right... it's all fixed now. I'd just like to say a big thank you to Hugo for fixing my baby up at such short notice. Maybe next time i'm up there I'll get a chance to have a guided tour.

Thanks again.

Oh... and sorry for stealing your parking space.

No problem, and you're allowed my space... it's the bastards from the other units stealing our spaces that I get annoyed about :)
