Does anyone know how to make a simple IR extender for your car? My empeg is installed in the armrest (just got a new CL, and it's the only place to put it!). Anyway, I'm looking for a way to mount an IR eye somewhere on the dash and have it send the signal to an IR trasmitter located in the armrest. This would allow me to use the Empeg's remote.

I saw that radio shack has an IR Detector box that has an Vcc, Vout and ground. Would I simply wire this to an IR LED? If so, how?!?! If not, any ideas? Would some sort of fiber optic line work? It seems like this should be very simple, but I don't know how!

Thanks,
brad

You can get IR extender boxes (usually wireless, but it'll work all the same).

The radio shack IR detector probably demodulates the IR - just gives you the data and not the ~38kHz carrier. You could feed this to an IR led, but first you'd have to (possibly) invert it and then AND it with a 38kHz clock.

Try http://www.smarthome.com they a lot of similar stuff (remote extenders, out of sight stealth IR controller extensions) for home stereos but may have for car as well.

Solved the problem! Found a $35, remote control extender made for cars at a local car stereo/car video place. I guess they're mainly used for when people install VCR's and DVD players in their trunks and need to control them. But I installed it, and it works great!

Thanks for the ideas
