Yay! Bravo for including the ability to download files from emplode! Very surprised to see it included after all of the hubub on this board about it. Excellent that it's now in there.

My only minor complaint is that the files are saved without keeping the track number... I'd love to have it save as:

artist - album - track - trackname.mp3...

Thanks! Merry X-Mas!

I'm just glad this this ball is rolling. I'm sure, from user demand it will be configurable at some point. Or someone will hack it to give the necessary functionality.

It wouldn't be so bad if all my files had good ID3 tags in the first place. What do they say about hind sight?

It's my hope to someday download all content off my empeg, use a good ID3 tagger to clean them up and re-upload them. For now, the great features in emplode are sufficient. Just give me a way to preserve my organization in emplode when I download the files off the player, like an appropriate file namimg scheme.
I realize playlists might not be saveable but at least genre, artist, source and track number along with title.

Happy Holidays.

I think it would be cool if it optionally put the Year, Genre, and Track Number into the file name. If it did that, then a quick squirt through MP3 Tag Studio would fix up all your tags for any downloaded files.

Also, its current arrangement of Album before Artist is a little strange, I always preferred Artist before Album.

I've updated the FAQ...

That would be totally cool. Put some kind of setting in a menu that would allow you to include different ID3 tag info in the file name. This would greatly help in moving files from one empeg to another. It would also allow me to fix files on my HD that might have been cleaned up through emplode while they were on the empeg.

You probably don't have as many compilation CD's as Roger

This first version is deliberately basic. It was implemented in just a few hours, although the underlying protocol support has existed for a very long time (and I've been hinting about that for years in every thread on the subject!).

I expect this will get more sophisticated as we add file taxi support and so forth.

So, do you have any insight as to why the legal types decided it would be OK now?

The issue was passed to external counsel and researched in more depth than previously.

Is all this hard work on a "dead" product related to anything else other than the HSX

If yes cool bring on the new toys

If no cool bring on the new features and thank sonicblue big wigs for letting you do all this it is very appreciated

As it happens this particular feature is currently used only in the car player.

Of course the car player has also benefitted from some HSX109 features and vice versa. That's why I don't think of Rio Car as a dead product - the common codebase ensures that it will be kept fresh as long as we're coding. Of course if we all make enough to retire to the Bahamas then you're in trouble, but that's not going to happen while we're selling empegs for $199

Yes, thanks for adding this feature, i have not tried it yet, but i'm going to upgrade to 2.0b7 and download alll my tracks since i have lost my local collection due to hard drive crash. (yes, i've learned my lesson, i'll back it up this time.) i just hope it will batch download entire playlists, and put them in the proper folders, like Jemplode does.

Now if only SonicBlue had found a way to magically manufacture the empegs so that they could sell them at $199 and make a profit...then we'd see the kind of empeg community that you were hoping for.

Unfortunately, a top quality product like the empeg requires top quality equipment, which isn't really cheap unless you can find a way to mass produce them. But, even still, the HDs still would cost a good portion.

I guess it'll always be the underground product it is, with it's loyal (cultish) following.

Fact is you can't even buy a decent CD head unit for $199!

It doesn't recreate playlist structure yet. This is the quick implementation, due to getting the go-ahead at the last minute!

Hi Rob.

Any chance for emplode to get some command-line options like those on emptool? Plus some options to download and upload specific FIDs? I tried some time last weekend, but I couldn't built a small utility to access specific FIDs on the empeg. I just don't really get the emptool source structure into my mind well. Letting the USB issue aside for now ;-(
