Wow. I am floored! I did not think that anyone (outside the Cambridge folks) would have more players laying around as spares than I. I am impressed! Horrified... but impressed!

To be fair, I did see him use two of those units, and not just one. So, it could be said he has 2 spares of one of the units, and 3 spares for the other unit. The Mark 1 is just there to be collected.

It still seemed like I was in a small electronics store seeing his room though

I have four in active use, and four spares. I had a ninth, but I sold it to loren a while back after he had one stolen.

It's not. I had a spare. Then I got married. Now I have no spare. Now I cannot afford another spare. All the sudden money for a spare gets spent on furniture and decor and such. bleh.

Better to have two spares. I had two spares once upon a time. The second spare can work as a loaner. You can give it out like a sample...sorta like being a drug pusher. Then when your friends get addicted, you can take it back and make them buy their own.

You are obviously not married to a Puerto Rican.

Having a very passionate wife can be a very good thing or a very bad thing.

Translation: I buy a spare empeg and she buys 4 new dresses, a leather jacket, 5 new books, and a Karma. While the Karma I wouldn't mind, I don't think my bank account would survive.

I've had my first empeg installed for just over two weeks now, and I'm damn sure going to be buying a spare or two. I can't imagine my commute without it... people used to fumble with CDs? Heathens!

What do you mean used to? This is what the majority of people still do. Very sad.

Well, yeah. I'm just glad that I'm not one of them anymore.

It's funny - my girlfriend was dumbfounded that I had jettisoned my CD player and changer in favor of the empeg. Then I queued up all of the Counting Crows albums for her (the Crows are her favorite band) and she figured out quite quickly that she hadn't lost a thing. Now she wants one. So do all of my other friends - they have empeg envy.

It sounds like you have to convince her how awful life would be if _her_ empeg were damaged or (shivver) stolen!

I have one spare (which I'm bummed about because the price has cut in half since I bought it a year ago. i know, i know, "what about those who bought before the firesale, etc, etc. yes, i am grateful just to own it).

But, I feel bad that I have a spare. That's one less empeg for someone to enjoy. Mine just sits on a shelf in the basement.

So I've been wondering, how DO you all manage to lend out your empegs? Certainly people don't install your loner sled and take it out when they are done. Do they just use a cassette adapter to listen to it in the car? Or do they just not use it in the car at all?

And how... just HOW do you trust someone else with your empegs! Haha, I only let people near my empeg when it's snapped inside its Pelican 1400 case.

I was just asking myself if I should buy a spare, since I love my empeg so much. Now I know I'm just so naive...

I've never lent my spare out -- in fact, I only just put it back together -- but if I did, I'd lend the person a Mark Lord dock (of which I also have a spare), so that the person could enjoy it at home.

Actually, I've got a spare sled, too, but that's going nowhere.
