Another milestone....need to upgrade the hard drive for lack of space...from 10gb > 30gb > 50gb....now less than 1 gb remaining and fear i will not be able to reach the 10k song mark (still have 300+ to go)

as such, where is the go-to site to buy hard drives these days?

thanks,

Ed

I would recommend ZipZoomFly if you're in the US. Aside from usually having better prices than Newegg, they also included 2nd-Day shipping in the price. The drives are also shipped in a nifty foamy thing that's useful for shipping drives you've sold on ebay.

I usually go with IBM/Hitachi.

Me too, but it looks like I might try Seagate since they spin at 4200 instead of 5400 for 100GB.

I recently fitted a 40GB Samsung drive to a Mk1. It was amazingly quiet. We'll see about the reliability I guess...

Samsung makes great ultra quiet, low-power drives; they're one of the first to use fluid dynamic bearing motors. I use one (well the 3.5" version) in my quiet PC and recommend them highly. Not sure how their shock handling (probably the most important quality for an empeg) stacks up to other brands though. Their datasheet claims 200G operating or 250G non-operating shock tolerance for the M40S series.
