WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!

There are plenty of laptop PATA drives still.

Check Newegg.com Their search engine can filter for 2.5" ATA-6 (PATA) drives. The pinnacle of drives for our Empeg is the WD2500BEVE. With a hard drive shortage looming, I suspect this drive will be gone from retail later this year.

The link I gave was for Newegg and it showed the page with laptop drives that were still PATA...

Hi,

I have been using the WD2500BEVE 250 GB drives paired up in Empegs for a while. They seem to be okay.

I noticed there have been reports of loss of boot sector data on the web, but I have not seen this as of yet.

Mark worked out a new set of software for them and you should use this if you are using large drives. They work well.

You may also need to adjust your cache reserve too for the larger drives. Without it you may get the nomem error.

Both of these items are covered in the 250 GB thread under the Empeg General Forum.

I bought mine locally. I wouldn't wait too long.

Ross

Newegg has 60GB drives for 54.00 but 160GB drives for 70.00
