On my way to work on Friday, my Empeg suddenly started playing games with me, changing radio stations and muting/unmuting randomly. I thought perhaps that the stalk adapter I'd bought was sending bogus codes, so I tried unplugging that from the tuner module, but still the poltergeist-like behaviour continued. When I unplugged the tuner module itself, everything became normal again (but of course without any radio).

This started 3 days after I installed the stalk adapter; 10 days after installing the tuner.

Today, I managed to borrow a friend's Psion and get in-car access. Running od -txC -v -w4 /dev/ttyS0 (with the tuner connected but the stalk adapter removed), I got inputs at random intervals, starting in the 0x38-0x40 range but drifting up to around 0x90 after a minute or two. It looks like the input is floating freely; I haven't had a chance to take any electrical measurements yet.

Is this a known fault, or familiar to anyone? Could it be caused by the stalk adaptor? (it did work reasonably well for 3 days before symptoms appeared, though). Can it be fixed? I've no problem with paying for the repair if it's my fault. There's also no problem with sending it to Cambridge to be looked at, as I live within half a mile of the Empeg building at Signet Court.
