I am in desperate need for a mkII, if anyone has one for sale, there is no price too high for me. Let me know,

Jason

Um, that's nice to know. As a buyer, that statement probably just increased your price a bit. I do not have one for sale, but watch this space and ebay - they appear regularly.

I was going to keep one as a spare, but for $3000 I'll sell it.

Sorry... couldn't resist.

I see there is a 12 gb mkII on ebay. How hard would it be to put a bigger hard drive into the player?

Intensely easy. Drive upgrades are very common and extremely well documented. (Thanks, Tony!!!) You have to be a little more careful about the memory on a Mark2 if you are going to put a large capacity drive in it (say 80GB or greater), but that is easy to work around.

MkII or MkIIa?
There is a difference, though small.
I wonder if you guys (jaytothez20 and alex25) recognize it.. it seems like your other posts refer to both models as one.

If you would click on the link I provided, it would be helpful.

(sorry, I'm not really a jack@ss, I just couldn't resist)
Although the differences are small, members here seem to be religiously specific about the fine points. The FAQ is your friend!

The finer points are minor, such as the MKII (empeg) knob is more clickey and more likely to fail while the MKIIa (RioCar) knob is smoother and more robust (yes yes, "knob" = "rotary encoder"). Also, the MKII (empeg) sled (and body?) metal is apparently better than the MKIIa (RioCar), letting the empeg enter and leave the sled with less grinding, "fingernails on the chalkboard" feeling. The empeg's 12 meg RAM vs. the RioCar's 16 meg is listed in the FAQ, but can be overcome using a 64meg memory card (link?).
