Don't get me wrong, I love Bugzilla .. It's free, it's got a ton of features, and it just-plain-works. But MAN, the UI is freakin ugly on that thing. I finally mustered up the stength to quit bitching and starting fixing and I just recently submitted a patch for it:

http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259723 for anyone else who cares about such things and might prefer a different look in their Bugzilla (assuming you're running off the head of the tree)

That is one nasty UI, even I design better UIs than that. Though I guess it hasn't so much been designed as accumulated crud as it has gone one.

Joel has got the right idea when it comes to bug reporting:

I've only looked at the screenshot you attached, but there seem to be a lot of fields missing from it. Where did they go?

That particular screenshot is of the stock bugzilla new bug form actually -- the edit form has a lot more fields on it. I tried to avoid making substantial changes to the templates themselves and try to just make them more conducive to stylesheeting, so most of the content in the body area is the same (albeit laid out differently / restyled)

Yeah Bugzilla just gets more and more stuff stuck on by different developers and while it does a lot, it's definitely not inviting. I'm trying to introduce it to non-developers and it's a big turnoff out-of-the-box.

So badly I want to clone bugzilla's UI onto RT, so I can use the sane RT interface, and let people who really want to be assaulted continue to use "bugzilla".

Huh. That was post #3000. How... uninspiring. I bet the folks at Best Practical don't mind the plug though.

Which is one of the main reasons we use mantis. For a bug tracker to work for us, it needed to be easy to use. Bugzill simply wasn't.
