I recently updated the hard drive (and motherboard and processor, but that is the subject for a future thread) and put windows on that one. However, while trying to get stuff off my old hard drive, I had forgotten that I password protected (and encrypted) the My Pictures folder. Are there any good programs to get those unencrypted (preferablly free ones)?

If you were using the file encryption system that is built into XP and didn't save the keys then you've lost the files permanently.

EasyCrypt....it was a trial version, but most of the time...there was some sort of error that caused it to crash....anyone know of any other ones?

I use bestcrypt with 448 bit blowfish encryption. It's a pretty good package, and in several years of use I've had no problems.

Note that if the encryption used is any good, no matter which program you use, if you lose the password/passphrase you're completely screwed. That's the whole point of encryption, after all If you can get the data back without the key, it's not secure in the first place, and therefore a waste of time.

Chances are no, you will have to use the original program to decrypt it.
