Okay two questions

Right first question if i have a network of three computer 1,2 and 3 if i transfer a file from computer 1 to computer 2 but do it using computer 3 to do it does the file go through computer 3

Second question if computer 2 was replaced by an empeg and emplode is running computer 3 but music files are on computer 1 do the files go via the computerwith emplode on it when uploading to the empeg

IIRC there are ways (special mode/special ftp servers, whatever) to use a client at 2, and transfer files directly from 1 to 3 without the files going through 2.

Haven't used it myself, haven't seen it in action, but do believe I read about it somewhere...

Yeah. FXP does that. You just handle the control whilst a seperate data connection is made between the two servers.

What kind of server support does FXP need? At least one of your remote servers, I would guess?

I think you need something that supports FXP at both ends for it to work properly. PureFTPd does from what I remember.
