Hello peeps,

I'm writing a playout system for the radio station I help out and I need to support mp3 playback. Now, I wrote an mp3 player a while back with the xaudio engine and found it very good, didn't the v1 empeg software have xaudio as the decoder?

My question is, is there any other decent decoders out there? I tried to get a copy of the nitrane engine but got told to f**k off, literally. I'd like something I could use on windows but also am interested in developing under linux as well. Xaudio appears to been sucked up by some big company and all the downloads have disappeared.

Any suggestions?

I don't think the Xaudio one is very well rated any more anyway.

I would recommend http://www.mars.org/home/rob/proj/mpeg/ from Robert Leslie. It's a good sounding decoder.

Ahh, so thats what he has been working on lately. For those that don't know, he helped to get the empeg developer movement started with some very critical information early on. Glad to hear he is still doing something out there.
