I've got to hand it to Sony, they're sticking to this minidisc stuff. According to CNet, they've got 4 new models coming out. I was all for this technology at one point. Then these weird things called MP3's came out......

yeah my friend swears by minidiscs, and I don't know why. I am almost to the point of saying to his face how he could do better and should step up to the "new millenium". I showed him my empeg and everything, no effect on the guy to stray him from the minidisc. I think minidisc fans are in some kind of cult of denial.

Greetings!

I used to have a lot of Minidisc stuff. I used it in the car, recording concerts, everything. This was, at the time, the best way of recording and playing back decent amounts of data in a direct access method. CDR then became available (in the days of DOS, where a 1x burner was a full 19" rack mounted device!), and I abandoned MD quickly thereafter except for concert recording. The CDR, of course, is no longer really used in the car anymore...

MD's are much more popular here in the UK. There are more people with a MD player than a MP3 player.

Well, minidiscs where the best portable format until the ipod came out. Flash just wasn't cheap enough, and it still isn't. CDs skip and scratch, and there still isn't a portable CD recorder. If you really want something to ridicule, sonicblue still sells a tape player. (well, it's a broken link from the front page. Gotta love the SB E-Store..)

If you're talking about this thing, ridicule is definitely due. Even TechTV trashed that thing.

MD is the best thing going for bootlegging concerts. I haven't done that in a while because I am sick of concealing things.....

I haven't found anything to rival minidisc for its ease of portability combined with standalone recording.

Yeah, MD is really the only way to go for us financially challenged individuals You can get a player that's about 3"x3"x1" for about $80, and media is less than a buck a pop. Sure, I'd prefer an Ipod, but this is pretty nice for a fifth of the price.
