I've seen a lot of good advice given here and now I need some so I'll be grateful for any help. I'm trying to figure out what kind of computer I need to buy if I want to serve applications that clients can access directly over dial-up and internet. The served application would be a single W2k based program. Also, what client computer would you suggest for this application? I want the client to be dedicated and low-power consumer. But be able to move from site to site without hassles. Some of my priorities are ease of administration and low down time. I don't have a lot of experience in this area so if you need more information just ask. Thanks in advance.

Tom

Not really sure what you want exactly. When you serve applications do you mean serve files?

Ability to move from site to site could involved a web-based interface.

Really need more info before we can help I think. What's the application?

You may want to look into Citrix

Well, if you code your app to run under Linux rather than windows, then you could run it on your Empeg -- very portable, very low power consumption.

Cheers

For the client systems you might/should look at Wyse

Sounds like you're looking at a Citrix or thin client solution. This wyse appears to be pretty neat, and they're on special!get 11 for the price of 10. What an offer.

You'd need a Windows server capable of handling a number of terminal clients and you're best to talk to a local business dealer for those. Concievably, any powerful retail PC would do though. getting the Win2k Server & terminal licences wouldn't be chap though.
Why do you need a client thru dialup? Isn't it something you can put on a laptop for demos?
