I did the hike up to the top of half dome last weekend and thought I'd post a couple pics from the top. The view was amazing.

Lots more pics over here.

That first picture looks like a trail of ants. What happens if someone falls?

Unfortunately this, and odds are more often than not they take others with them. It slopes quite a bit from left to right so the domino effect is unlikely. However there where so many people climbing both up and down on both the inside and the outside of the ropes that if you fell you would probably take at least a couple people with you.

I'm actually amazed that they even let people do this hike. Between the cables, the stairs, and the total lack of any guardrails quite a few accidents must happen.

Nice shots man. I can't believe they let that many people on the cable at once... that's a HUGE disaster just waiting to happen. I remember making it half way up that hike when i was really young with my Dad... he had the forethought to bring one can of Coke and a candy bar for him, my brother and I. Someday I shall make it the whole way! Was it pretty crowded in other parts of the park?

Man, that sux. I too am surprised that the National Park Service isn't required to put up all kinds of safeguards for that hike. I would love to climb to the top of Half Dome, but I wouldn't trust all those other people going up and down the cables.

Thanks! Yeah, the whole park was pretty packed and I was amazed at how many people where doing the half dome hike. The rest of the trail (18 mile round trip) wasn't a line like at the top, but I don't think we ever went more than a quarter of a mile without seeing someone. You should definitely do the hike when you get a chance.
