So I got my wife an electric blanket for Christmas because she is cold all the time. We have a Shih Tzu, it has pretty long hair so I doubt it's ever cold.

Well the Shih Tzu decided to lay on the electric blanket and must really like the warmth. She will lay on there a few minutes get hot, start panting, then move for while. Then she goes back and gets too hot again.

I'm starting to think it's a personality-based thing with pets. My old cat would sit on any lap she could find as soon as it was available, and loved the electric blanket. Our new cats only very occasionally sit on our laps (one of them almost never), but are almost as affectionate, being around us all the time and almost always sleeping right next to our feet.

*edit*
and thank you for the delightful distraction for the current hot thread smile

Our dog will sit on any lap if she is getting petted. As soon as the petting stops she's gone. The heated blanket is a new thing though.

I have had cats that lay in the sun coming through a window for the warmth but I didn't know it was a dog thing too.

My cats have always helped me discover where the hot water pipes run under the floor of new houses - they do love the warmth. This country isn't cold enough for electric blankets though so never tried that out.

Maybe that's why the dog sometimes lays in a weird spot maybe there is a pipe under the floor there.

This can be a problem if you keep boxers!
If you get up from the sofa, they immediately dash to sit where you sat, to get the benefit of your body heat.
