well, the one benefit of being unemployed is finally having time to catch up on geek projects. a few months ago, i bought a turbonet card for my tivo. i plan on getting it installed this afternoon, and then using my broadband connection for service updates.

i'm also interested in extracting shows, and converting them to DivX format stored on a file server. has anyone undertaken this project lately? i've spent a little time browsing some forums, and the information out there is sketchy at best. if anyone has some tips, lessons learned, etc. that could help point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it.

FWIW, i have an original philips series 1 standalone recorder (HDR112), upgraded a couple years ago with an 80GB drive. i have machines running win2k, linux, and freebsd at my disposal to do the conversion work as necessary.
