I thought that by installing the new 2.0 sw I would have lost every hack I had installed so far. Instead:

1) I still have the "Quit" menu option that I got with Displayserver 2.0 . How do I remove that?

2) When I try to enter the command prompt by pressing Q, I never succeed since I immediately get "you have zero seconds...".

Here it is:

------------
[...]
No secondary hard disk
Press 'q' now to go into development mode. You Have Zero Seconds To ComðStarting player
empeg-car 2.00-beta3 2001/10/17.
3bcecd60 DHCP name = lo
3bcecd60 DHCP index = 1
3bcecd60 DHCP flags = 0x8
3bcecd60 DHCP addr = 0.0.0.0
[...]
------------------------

Now, I am a total linux newbe, so, could anybody tell me step by step what to do? Thank you!

Concerning your first question, this is in config.ini Check out the (more or less) complete docs on riocar.org.
You could transfer config.ini to your PC, edit the file and put it back on the empeg.

Your second question... Q should work when player is started already, as far as I can remember.

That's as far as I can help you, good luck.

In response to the q issue....I found that when I hit q and it goes through its sequence, there is a little message there about "to start real empeg hacking, type 'tm' within 5 seconds"

To get into the shell, you need to type 'tm' and enter the minute you see the prompt.

It seems this was a cute little feature of the kernal hack with beta 2.0

Let me know if that doesn't work....

Just hit CTRL+C when player is started. It should work, cause it worked for me getting that notify=1 out. If it doesn't respond, check your comm. settings, they should be 115k/8/N/1 NO HANDSHAKING... Good luck

How about choosing 'quit' from the player menu one last time? Since init and /etc/profile are overwwritten, it should do the default thing: drop to shell.

Err, you did install development image, didn't you ?

It worked! The QUIT option worked! :)
Now, I am afraid the timeout to press Q is set to 0 for some reason when I installed DisplayServer and the QUIT oprion was activated.

Thank you!

Ok, this is driving me crazy. Now, it does not accept any input from the keyboard! Maybe I installed the consumer sw by mystrake? Is that possible? How do I find out if it's the developer or the consumer?

Thank you.

If the shell doesn't work, it's consumer .

Seriously, it does look as id it might be consumer. I would just re-apply developer's. After all, it is just a few minutes.

Have you tried restarting hyperterm, or even reboot the PC?

Do you see the shell prompt? Do you have stock or custom /bin/init and /etc/profile (they are replaced during upgrade)?

Consumer will still quit on Ctrl-C, but then say "No shell!" and restart the player.

Are you sure you're actually sending things? Flow control needs to be switched OFF in your terminal program.

Ok, I sorted this out. Van Dycke SecureCRT, my terminal, was defaulting to "error control" ON, even though I disabled it. That's because of the "general" settings that were overriding the session settings. My stupid mistake, I guess. Anyway, it worked perfectly, eventually.
Thank you all, guys!
