im having a problem. im using xp and there is a small icon in the system tray telling me "a network cable is unplugged." at one point, emplode was recognizing my player on start up but when i went to open up my player... it said it was no longer connected. I dont know what to do. my player allready has an ip and i allready put it into the emplode options. i have no experience with ethernet. please help.

Have you tried another cable? (cross-over in case of direct empeg/computer connection, straight if going through normal ports of a hub or switch)

Ethernet troubleshooting steps are located here. Please go through that list first.

I had the same problem with mine. Emplode would recognise the player and allow me to connect but would loose the connection before I was able to synch. Went into TCP/IP properties on my network connection in XP and configured the properties to match the player exactly (subnet mask, Gateways, etc...). Then in Emplode I changed the option to "Specific address" and I only have intermittant issues now which I think is beacuse of the NIC being on the mother board and not in a "slot" (had problems with this type of connection before). Good Luck!!!

Go to the "About" screen on the empeg.

Make a note of the IP address it is populating. (let's pretend it has 192.168.0.2)

Then open a DOS window and type 'ping 192.168.0.2'

If it responds to the pings, your connection is good.

erik, have you tried to "force" your NIC to 10baseT speed? It is possible that your settings are wrong or autodetect is not the default. Come over to my house tonight and we'll see if we can connect on my PC, I'm running XP on it too.

Let's say the ping comes back good and Emplode still won't recognise the player, then what???

Silly suggestion which I can't imagine would work would be to make sure you have the most current Emplode; I actually assume if you had flash upgraded your player to a newer version you'd have mentioned that.

Try going through a hub or switch.

i am the happiest guy in the world!!!!! It works!!!!! all i did was go into emplode via serial, then i deleted the ip, mask, and gateway so it was all blank. then i selected automatic configuration. opened up emplode again and it found it in one second. such a relief. now i am connected directly to my computer via ethernet. i recommend it to everyone using serial or USB.
