I've been trying forever to get the HiJack Kernel working on my Empeg II. I Have the latest Beta software (Version 2.00 Beta 11) Evertime I try loading it on via the Empeg Logo Editor 1.4 by Tony Fabris, I get and error. Almost every time it is error failure to get echo-back on erase command. If anyone can please help or have any ideas, please help! Thanks a lot!

No, just for some reason it wasn't work on com port 1. Worked in emplode but not to flash the kernel. Connected it to Com port 2 and hijack is on there fine now

Is it because your internet-connection modem is on Com3?

Com1 and Com3 share an IRQ and cannot be used at the same time.

A NIC is not a modem. Tony was referring to the possibility that you were still using an analog/ISDN modem. Those devices use com ports.
NIC's (fortunately) do not.

Right, he knew that. It was his way of saying that he doesn't use a modem and the IRQs were not in conflict.

LOL yes i know a NIC is not a modem. I wasn't sure about the IRQ settings, and since I find Tony intelligent I checked that out anyway. I am ready to take my CCNA among other things, so I would hope I know that. Thanks for the clarrification though

You don't be any chance have emplode still open with a serial connection do you? Or hyperterminal?

No, I just wanted to make sure you didn't have any other program open that was using your Com port... So, if you had emplode or hyperterminal open, using Com1, then the logo editor wouldn't work until you closed those aps.

If you have ActiveSync (for PocketPC devices) installed that will camp on a serial port and not let go until you configure it to not connect via serial. I had that issue trying to use a stepper motor controller interface once. It drove me nuts for a day or two.

I noticed you didn't say that you did not have a modem, just that you did not use it. Check to see what com it is on if you do have one. The modem doesn't have to be actively in use, it could be any software that would answer the line (fax or answering maching software) that could be setting the modem to active and disabling that com port. Or if it is an ISA modem it will not share the IRQ regaurdless of weather it is active.

Can be bizarre issues like this - I have to use com2 if I use windows although I have nothing trying to use com1, and believe me - I have checked. I put it down to standard Microsoft nonsense and accept the fact that I have to hook my nokia stuff in through com 1 now.

A brief liaison with XP (yes I know, but I had to have a quick play to see just how insecure it was) showed the same scenario, but Linux copes fine with any of com1 - com4.

My advice - accept that MS will never be "sensible" and prepare for workarounds
