Hey, I've got a problem (and yes, i've already tried the FAQ)...

I've got a mk2a that i was able to see via ethernet just fine until one day...

Now when I've got a network cable plugged into the player and start it up it shows a ton of collisions for a few seconds and cannot be accesses by emplode (either by broadcast or specific IP). I can't ping it or anything! This really sucks!

If anyone can help, i'd really appreciate it. I'm running xp and have the computer and deck running into a hub.

Have a look at what the network settings are for the player by going to the About menu option on the player.

You sure there is nothing at that IP address on your network?

naw, i checked there first... tried dhcp and manual config and made sure both matched up (except for, of course, the IP address) perfectly... still no luck... the collisions really have me curious tho...

I'll just toss this out there:
You didn't happen to use a crossover cable or plug it into an uplink port on the hub instead of a normal port right? Just one more thing to check.

unfortunately, it's a regular patch cable...

Here's some other info real quick (in case it helps)

-Windows XP Pro
-3com nic card w/ a netgear hub..
-currently the only 2 devices on the ethernet network
-computer also has a dsl modem
-owner is willing to try ANYTHING to get this to work again.

Is it worth trying to unplug everything from the hub except the rio. Does it show any collisions then? If it does, could it be a dodgy hub? If it only happens when the computer is plugged in, what IP settings are you using on the computers network card? Are they the usual range (10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x)? The DSL modem, is it an internal modem or is it Ethernet or USB? Could it be a conflict between the the DSL modem and the network card?

I trieid only having the rio on the hub and it's still causing collisions.. on the computer, i tried having it automatically get an ip and manually get one.. wheni specified an ip, i used 169.254.150.229 (.230 for the rio) whtn a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and gateway of 169.254.130.1
The DSL modem that's in the computer as well is internal and uses the windows dialer... This computer was the same one that I used previously to talk to the rio over ethernet so i'm not ruling out the possibility of incompatibility BUT in my mind it all goes back to the collisions...

i dont know if it makes a difference but on mine the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0

Assuming you're intending them to be on the same LAN, your netmask is wrong in your example. The easiest thing to do would be either to change it to 255.255.0.0 or change the IP addresses of the units so that the third number is the same between them, in addition to the first and second ones.

whoops, typo.. the netmask i was trying was 255.255.0.0 and the ip's are good..
