I am having trouble deleting some tracks using Jemplode from my Empeg running Version 3 alpha 11 so I decided to try Emplode. It says Version 2 in the about box. When I connect with Emplode it gives me Warning messages on all my OGG files saying missing metadata. I'm worried I have the wrong version of Emplode or is this normal?

IIRC, there's a different version of emplode somewhere that deals with OGGs, but has bugs that would make you not want to use it otherwise. Again, that's all IIRC. If you don't sync, nothing will get screwed up. I'm not sure that it will even if you do sync.

Every time I've switched between emplode 2.1 and jemplode there have been issues that require a full fsck and a db rebuild or three, and manually dealing with some orphaned albums and/or songs.

emplode 2.1 is annoying to get running on xp and was problem-free in usage. jemplode is very easy to get working for network use, more difficult for USB and serial, and even now still occasionally hangs on me when doing transfers.

Basically, it's pick one and stick to it. (I'm talking about with v3 alphas and ogg files.)

That's pretty much my experience, too, although I didn't have any problem with emplode and XP, probably because I wasn't using USB.

Under Jemplode and v3alpha11 I sometimes break playlists and need to synch under emplode, but under emplode, when synching I need to ensure no network traffic as it appears very sensitive to delays. Reckon it is probably my PC that is at fault.

Thanks for all the info. I had an album I could not get to delete using JEmplode. After all the fsck'ing and rebuilding I finally got it deleted using Emplode but it moved the location of some albums and I cannot get them to move back (Very Frustrating). Would it be possible to put all the fsck and remove commands into some sort of script file so I can just Hyperterminal in and run a single command when a transfer aborts? Could my problem be caused by my drives being very full (about 280meg free). 83 gig total. Thanks again!

I am fairly certain the faq has info for a full fsck HERE - so you could easily write it into a script file. 83 Gb doesn't seem too bad, although 280 Mb free could be an issue. I upgraded mine recently because I had got down to 3 Gb free and figured that would fill up in no time.
You have used set_empeg_max_fid.v7 already, yes?

No, do you just ftp it up and run it like the fidsift script? I also need to increase my ReserveCache, I was playing my FLAC encoded album and it was skipping really bad. I set it to 32 like Mark Lord says he has, but he must be running more than just HiJack or maybe he doesn't have any FLAC encoded files.

yes - I just pop fidsift and setmaxfid into / every time I upgrade/rebuild etc., chmod 'em and execute.

I'm not running any FLAC files either so I'm not sure what you'd want for Reserve Cache in that situation.

Done! I was hoping that setmaxfid would fix the trouble I have been having with bookmarks but it appears to have had no effect. Is anyone else who is using V3Alpha11 having trouble with bookmarks?
