There's a rumour that is oft repeated here, that all of the pins from the Empeg CPU (SA1100) are connected to *something*.

I'm not so sure. In particular, the LCD controller module is probably unused, leaving perhaps as many as 20 signals (or more likely only 10-12 of those) available for other purposes.

This has possibilities..

Hugo's words on this...
and here

I'm not a hardware guy, so I'm not sure what much of that means, but it sounds like at least 8 of them are a no-go. Not sure about the others.

Ahh.. thanks for dredging up those threads. There's still some potential there, just not as much as I'd hoped for.

Cheers

I'm interested to know what "possibilities" you had in mind Mark. Care to share?

On a 2a there's the "ring-o-lights". ISTR this is for a PIC connected to the output (only) of serial port 3, ie the serial on the back of the player.

The right code on the PIC and you've got 11 more outputs. You could put the right sort of header on any commands to prevent normal serial output getting misinterpreted too. Mainly though, you've got somewhere to solder the PIC down
