booey member Registered: 31/12/2001 Posts: 113	Hi, i just decided to dust off my Empeg/Rio Car after like a year of no use.. This is my setup.. Rio Car MK2 , 20GB + 10GB drives 6GB used 21GB Free , about 1600 files on the player V2.01 Final , Hijack 4.61 I started uploading file, which was going fine but it seemed to reach a limit and now everything i try to upload i get the following error.. " *.mp3 could not be synchronized, error 0xc0041005" and error 0xc004101e error on the next mp3 file, and so on.. If i delete a file, then try to add the file that failed before, it works fine.. so it appears to be reaching some limit, but what i have no idea. At first i thought it was the FID limit, but i only have like 1600 songs on my player. could that really be it? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

pgrzelak carpal tunnel Registered: 15/08/2000 Posts: 4859 Loc: New Jersey, USA	Greetings! Your boot log is a bit scrambled. You probably are using cut and paste from hyperterm. You are better off capturing the results to a file and then cutting / pasting. It is much clearer. I suspect that the hard drive cable may have loosened from the header, a hard drive jumper fell off (if using the regular / too large desktop drive jumpers), that the cable might be bad or that there is corruption on the hard drives. It's removing the file from the "good" hard disk, thus leaving space for the new song on the same good disk. As soon as that's in place, then it tries to place the next file on the "bad" hard disk, and then fails. See here for a description of why. As was previously stated... From the looks of your boot log (by the way, click here to find out how to produce a non-scrambled boot log, as was previously stated, hyperterminal has a clipboard bug and you should do a capture text instead), you've got problems with one of the disk drives. It's either the cable, the jumper, the IDE header, or the drive itself. Follow that link in the prior post and carefully go through each part of it. After you solve the disk drive trouble, you might need to do a FSCK and a manual database rebuild. _________________________ Tony Fabris

It is possible for it to read correctly at boot, especially if it is a loose connection or intermittent problem. It looks like both drives were found without any problem, so it might be a connection problem or just a bad database / data issues. Try doing the manual FSCK and database rebuild mentioned above. booey member Registered: 31/12/2001 Posts: 113	I did do the the manual FSCK and database rebuild , but encountered errors. i'll re-run them and capture the output this time.. One other details i forgot to mention is i'm using my IBM thinkpad laptop power supply. Its similarly rated. I was thinking maybe it wasnt spinning up both drives, but i'm not sure.

Since the fsck is not, hardware errors could still be there with the cabling. Edit: Before doing anything else, double check the physical connectors as described in the FAQ entries listed above. Either a header may be loose, a connector may not be crimped or there may be other damage. Yes, if the bad physical connection was a partial one, for example, the IDE header had only certain pins lifted, exactly as in the photos in that link we keep telling you to follow and which you haven't yet said you've actually tried to do anything it suggests. Anyway, those IDE Data Test errors indicate that there is a partial bad connection to the drive. Either cable problems or IDE header problems. I'm sure the actual values written and read could tell us which IDE header pins are lifted (or which corresponding lines on the IDE cable are having a bad connection). Fix the physical problem first before trying FSCKs. That utility is only useful if there's nothing physical wrong with the drive, and in fact might even be damaging if there is a partial data connection problem as we suspect. _________________________ Tony Fabris

booey member Registered: 31/12/2001 Posts: 113	Well , it looks like i found the problem or just created a major one , and its not good. i think my Empeg is dead forever now When removing the Hard drive ribbon cable to the board, the last pin just fell right off. i'm assuming it was already loose, because i was careful with it.. i'm not good at soldering very small things like this. That header looks really bad...like it was subjected to high amounts of heat or some pretty serious twisting force. I'd imagine that Stu at Eutronix could solder a new header on pretty easily, but I don't know if there's some other issue that caused your header to melt or break. _________________________ ~ John

I usually keep it under my seat, and its got to be over 100 degrees in the car most days down here. If i can get this fixed by someone, you can be sure its not going back under the seat anymore! When looking with the naked eye, it does not look that bad really, but that zoomed in pic with a 3.2megpixel camera really shows microscopic details!!.. i cant believe how bad it looked in the pic. you guys have any ideas on what course of action i should take? Before the inside of your car got hot enough to melt the solder on the empeg's mainboard, the upholstery would probably have caught fire and the car would have burned to the ground. I'm thinking I should also have him use all new cables too? just to be safe. I havent used my empeg much over the last year, but man... now that its dead, i realize how great it is! Once its revived from the dead, its definitely going back in its Empeg case!!

But very carefully, by somebody with good previous experience doing SMT (surface mount tech.) soldering. It is very easy to destroy the copper pads on the main PCB by overheating.. And the new pin will need some extra support (epoxy, perhaps) after it has been reconnected. cheers
