I noticed in the car yesturday that my EMPEG got horribly slow. To the point where pressing "play" didn't do anything until approximatly 2 minutes later... Today, when I powered it up at home, it took approximatly 5-6 minutes to fully turn on... Each part of the boot-up process (loading visuals, etc) took 1-2 minutes each...

Any idea what might be happening?

I'm scared!

Could be a hard disk on its way out. It'll get progressively slower as it tries multiple times to read each failing sector.

With the empeg plugged into AC power, listen to the drives -- if it's going whir, whir, click, click, click, click, whir, then it's probably failing.

Would you also see errors in the boot log? That might be a good thing to capture anyway, if possible.
