I have been staring into empeg's display with dev 1.0 and disk icon on, trying to see when the disk is up, and I am quite impressed. Most of the time the player 'anticipates' my skips and swaps and already has beginning of the next track cached. The whole affair's memory footprint is incredibly small: with dev software and visuals active, the thing plays more than 4MB before the next spin-up.

I am beginning to understand why Hugo and the boys consider the player software their company's primary asset and don't (yet) even contemplate open-sourcing it.

Good work, guys@empeg! I hope you have already earned a lot from your OEM projects and will continue so.

Cheers!

Yep, our best stuff is that which most people don't even notice! It's interesting to compare this with other MP3 products - few of them have any intelligent caching at all.
