Over the last few days my Mk2 has hung a few times when booting after a restart of the car. The funny things is that:
- it only seems to do so after it is killed by switching-off the car *and* leaving the empeg in the dash
- it is resolved easily by pulling it out of the dash and re-inserting it
- the fault hasn't come up (yet?) when the car is started after the player is freshly inserted

Symptons are:
- *very* slow booting
- booting process mentions rebuild of database!
- empeg hangs on loading visuals

Upon re-inserting the player, it boots normally and continues playing where it was left when the car's ignition was killed.

Anyone who can explain?

Greetings!

Have you done a full sync lately? It sounds as if there are issues with the database or filesystem, and it needs a rebuild. The slow boot symptoms, and the picking up where it left off, sounds like it is loosing power abruptly without being able to shut itself down gracefully. Therefore rebuilding the database and picking up where it left off. You might want to a) check the timer to see how long it has been since your last FSCK and sync, and b) sync from emplode.

Yeah, but why would it only fall over when the car is restarted without removing the player first? Once it has fallen over, it plays gracefully without a database rebuild when the player is breifly removed from the cage and re-inserted?

(Will do a sync, just to be sure though)

The basic difference that if you restart without removing the player, the empeg should wake up from sleep-mode, while it has to do a complete reboot if you did remove it. At least this is the case if the sleep-timeout didn't occur before you restarted your car.

check the timer to see how long it has been since your last FSCK and sync . . .

Good suggestion, but where can I find this timer/counter, and any suggestions how to force an FSCK? Emplode doesn't suggest one (yet).

Thanks

Greetings!

You will need to have developer loaded. Here are links to the commands that others have posted...

Running FSCK

dump and tune FS for getting the mount counts.

Worst case, you could also just mount and unmount the drives a number of times until it is forced. Did performing a sync help?
