Hijack v418 is now released: the "geriatric player" release!

This version now dumps a 20-second popup message to the front display whenever a serious internal error is detected:

-- player crashes (various reasons displayed)
-- hard disk errors
-- kernel crashes (most, but not all)

As more and more of our players age, they may experience sudden slowdowns and glitches in the car, which until now were very difficult to diagnose. No more!

If you see one of these terse error popups, please make note of the message, to report it here later here for interpretation.

EDIT: Okay, good to go. For a moment I thought it might be DOA, but it turns out I was loading a Mk1 kernel onto my Mk2a (blush)

Cheers

I know this was mainly for Tony (and a few others) but thanks for making this public and for all the work you've put into Hijack!

Mmm.. missed one of the out-of-memory messages, so I'll issuing v419 shortly to cover that case as well.

Cheers

Let it be known:

MARK LORD IS THE MAN.

Thanks, Mark, this is extremely cool.

I'm running that version now, if the player freezes playback again, we'll know if it's a hardware fault right away.

I am guessing this message is a failing hard drive but this is what I am getting:

hda: disk error: read_intr

Any way to tell which drive is failing?I checked all cabling this morning but found nothing loose. I have two new 100gb drives on order.

Symptoms have been UI lockups, file corruption and sound glitching within the past few weeks. Mark put out the new HiJack just in time for me to test...

Yes. I think that HDA means the first "Master" hard disk, the one without the jumper.

Of course, it doesn't necessarily mean the disk is bad. I'm sure at this point, I don't need to give you the link to the FAQ entry on what to look for, but there it is anyway.

This player has been soldered and has had cable replaced also. I am getting the dreaded drive clicks now that it is safely inside in a quiet place. At least it is not a component on the empeg board.

My spare will get some use it seems for the next few days(weeks)...

Is there a list of possible failures that can be added as reference to this thead?

I got a "sigkill error" today... I was trying to go to the next song when it happened... what does this mean?

I have also had a couple of these when switching to the next song... Don`t know why this signal is sent.

Then I should increase the cache? Currently it's at normal with no adjustments through Hijack
