Just thought I'd throw this out there.

I'm right in thinking that findempeg won't find the empeg if you have disable_emplode=1 set in config.ini, right (hijack option)?

Does anyone see any way to disable emplode but still allow findempeg to work?

I want my coworkers (two of them that have their own empegs) to be able to browse and stream my playlists, but not control the player through emplode.

Dunno. With Mark gone from the scene for a while, the only way to find out for sure is probably going to be to try it for yourself and let us know.

Have you tried this yet? I don't know why the emplode flag would affect findempeg. As far as I remember, Hijack just prevents access to the specific port used by emplode. It doesn't cause the empeg not to broadcast. Now, if tman is is using that port as part of his ID, then you might have a problem. I'll try it in a second...

[edit] Oh well, looks like it's locating it the same way. So, unless tman changes findempeg, or unless Mark can block emplode another way, it won't work.

Anybody got any suggestions or ideas on how I can detect it without using the UDP broadcast that emplode uses?

If Mark can add another server to handle UDP when disable_emplode=1 then it would work

I'd rather not have to scan through the entire address range since that might take awhile...

It shouldn't be too hard to hack Hijack to allow the UDP broadcast protocol that Emplode uses for discovery, but yet still disallow the TCP connections that Emplode uses for actually connecting to the player for management purposes.

Done. Hijack v201 (untested though).
