Attached is a tgz file which contains the following patches:

usb-empeg-2.2.18-pre21.diff
usb-empeg-2.4.0-test11-pre5.diff

An early test (using emptool) showed:

Transferred 24582308 bytes in 59.258133 seconds, 414834.332144 bytes/sec

I've not tested either of them on a machine with an OHCI controller, as I don't have access to one.
Let me know if you find any bugs. As always, YMMV.

Wow this is the first I've heard of empeg USB support for 2.2.x! Who maintains these drivers? Any chance of them getting merged into the main kernel?

Er, it's been out for almost a year, well since January.

It would be nice if the standard linux ACM driver was
merged with this. But I recall they aren't quite compatible.

I think I misunderstood you. 2.3+ has been out for ages, and
2.2 drivers are new (well, as new as the USB backport).

Right. Although the 2.2 drivers don't work (for me) it's nice to see people are working on them!

Update:

Linus has accepted the driver into 2.4.0-test12-2; however Alan has postponed the driver until 2.2.19preX starts up (apparently too late in the game to be accepted into the 2.2.18preX kernel).

Borislav sent me a patch a while ago (Thank You Borislav). I tried it out on linux-2.4.0t12p3, and it seems to fix the problem with the initial use after loading the module. I didn't try it out on a 2.2.x kernel yet (I should be asleep right now), so if you are running a 2.2.x kernel, please try this one out, and let me know if it doesn't play nice, or if it does for that matter. It would be interesting to see what transfer rates people are experiencing with this driver. Currently, I'm seeing ~400kB/s; though there was one report of ~55kB/s.

The attachment is a zip'd tar file containing (because the bbs doesn't understand gzip):

patch-empeg-2.2.18.24 (applies against linux-2.2.18-pre24)
patch-empeg-2.4.0.12.3 (applies against linux-2.4.0-test12-pre3)
