This has been going on for a little while now, but until recently I've been able to put up with it. Every few days (sometimes weeks) there will be a time when my remote refuses to work. The empeg continues to function as usual, but does not respond to any button presses. It's not a sunlight issues because it has happened at night, and I'd be very surprised if it were the battery, because usually the remote will begin working again if I leave the player alone for a while and come back later. However, now it has been non-functional for about two days and continues to be so. Any ideas or is it time for a support email?
Thanks,
John

You could better first try a new battery! Edwin de Vaan

I had this problem, after only a week or so of owning my empeg.
I was able to confirm that the remote was the problem (by cross-testing with a different unit) and Empeg replaced it on the spot. --

I later swapped the battery and it worked perfectly. In future we'll swap out the battery before replacing the remote (provided the unit has been bought recently - this won't be a lifetime free battery service)

Are you saying that there are limits to your service? No-one is going to believe that... --

I am having similar trouble, but a new battery didn't do the trick. Already e-mailed [email protected].

I had a similar problem as well. I confirmed that it happend both during the day and at night, and I also used another remote with it (Palm V running OmniRemote). It only happened about 4 or 5 times during the last year, so it's certainly not as bad as your case.
I ended up sending mine back to empeg to replace the IR receiver. The had it fixed and sent back to me in a couple of days.

This reply is late, but I had the same crap going on with my MK2. See the thread. Sent unit back to empeg, said remote worked but replaced IR receiver anyway. Has been working fine since. -Rob ----- 12GB MK2 Blue 090000736 (6166 in the queue)

I've just tried a new battery, and hey presto! My remote works again.
Compared the two batteries with a volt meter, found that the old battery was showing a voltage of 2.2v after half a days use! The new battery was showing a healthy 3.2v.
After exhaustive tests (well, three or four goes) I found that the remote would always work with the new battery, but only the first button press would register with the old battery (I assume something is discharging in the remote). So I assume the remote has a very narrow voltage range.
I found that leaving the remote overnight with the old battery mean't I could get about four button presses in the morning before the remote stopped working again.
From reading the posts on the board it seems that SB bought a cheap shipment of dodgy batteries. Hopefully my new Varta should last a bit longer.
Cheers,
Andy M

I had this same problem after only a few days with the empeg, the rio remote didn't work but my old kenwood remote would, so I swapped the batteries between my 5 day old rio remote, and my five YEAR old kenwood remote and viola the rio remote works again, (thing is the kenwood remote does too) at least it works now.
