After about two months of use, my EMPEG now gets stuck in the sled, there are no obvious catch points so I think it may be the docking connector. I'm worried about this as I now have to use serious force to pull it out. I've checked the catchs on the top of the player too and they are droping correctly when I lift th handle....

any ideas????

On the side of the unit, are the "bumps" in the sled digging into the side of the unit? This was a problem with the Mk1 sled, but the mk2 sled has "sprung" bumps which have (as far as I'm aware) solved the problem. I suspect if your car doesn't let these flex outwards at all then you might be suffering from this problem though.

Where is the resistance - just on pulling out? Does it become easier to pull/push at any point (if so, how far out of the sled is the empeg at that point?)

When I pull it it gets stuck on the left side, it may even be the docking connector. I can wiggle it side to side no problem. I had a look at my unit and some of the bumps have made scratches down the top and side of the player. The scratch on the left side is less dug in, so I don't think it's the bumps.

My hunch now, after fiddling for a while is that the docking connector is getting stuck.

over to you ;)

Hmmm, no idea - never seen a docking connector getting stuck, they have a very low-effort dock/undock. The only way to really test this would be to remove the docking connector from the sled and try docking/undocking by hand.

The connector on the empeg end should be "loose" (ie, it should wiggle about a bit - the screws are only partially threaded to allow it to self-align). Does it?

I have unfortunately left it too late to check the docking connector, I pulled the empeg out this evening and one of the screws had disapeared. The other one was working loose.... It looks like over time the screws have gradually worked their way out... I will email you directly with my home address. If you could post me a couple of screws and washers for the docking connector it would be great.

Cheers

UPDATE:

I'm still having the same problem, have lost yet another screw and I think the two screws floating in my Dash are causing problems....Some of my dash keeps disapeering. i was wondering if it was the mileage I'm doing, I've done 15K since my EMPEG went in.... Anyone else done this many miles?

Rgds

Bill

Assuming you mean miles - i've just about done that. I did about 10k in the Polo (with a combination mk1 and mk2) and about 7k in the TT (again both mk1 and mk2).

No big problems yet, although the unit is at empeg for repair!

I've put at least 17k miles on my car since I got my empeg in August, and have had zero problems with the sled or empeg. fwiw.
