It turned out it was just the software that came loaded with the PC..installed some new softward and all is fine now...was thinking of burning all of my mp3's that is on the Rio onto CD's until/when I can get my Rio repared...but it would take too much time and effort (20+gigs).....

never know what you got till its gone!
