Anyway if the dynamic range compression is available in a kernel hack it should work with my player just fine.

If you can get Mark Lord's "Hijack" version of it working, with his latest defaults in it instead of Richard's (and-- ooo--- selectable settings from the front panel with a default of "medium"), then I will probably switch to using to your player software instead of the default player software.
