Not good - it's telling you that your drive is corrupted... equivilant of windows telling you to run scandisk..

can you get a shell prompt?
drop to a shell (press "q" when it says to), then try forcing a checkdisk...

umount /dev/hda4
fsck -f /dev/hda4
